Top British soul, funk, jazz, saxophonist “Snake Davis” appeared with his band in Yeovil on Friday 8th February – the same week that he is celebrating the release of his new album “Talking Bird” Before the show he came in to Ivel fm to play live on Neil Quigley’s programme. As Snake plays sax, he is often labelled “Jazz” which can dissuade people from venturing out. It’s true to say he plays some jazzy numbers, but his music is also funky, soulful and even includes chill out ambient tracks. In short, it appeals to a much wider audience. Anyway – that’s just me rambling on. Here are more “official details”:- Phenomenally talented saxophonist, flautist and composer, Snake Davis is instantly recognisable for his soulful and searing sound. A multi-faceted performer, he has worked with artists such as Ray Charles, James Brown and Amy Winehouse. His eighth album, ‘Talking Bird’, is an energetic synthesis of funk, pop, soul and world music, imprinted with his uplifting and raw-power style. Snake the “sax man” has recorded on more than 400 tracks in recent years for over 60 artists and played live with dozens more. Snake and his band will be playing music from the new album as well as some old favourites. It contains a mix of styles and draws on the artistic talents of some of the best players in the industry. Recorded in Lancashire, Buckinghamshire and Tokyo, it perfectly captures the essence of the musicians who have worked on it - you can sense that they’ve had a lot of fun putting this album together. Soulful searing tenor sax, funky flute, even a beautiful ballad featuring just soprano sax and strings. Audiences are used to an entertaining, uplifting musical treat and on this tour they won’t be disappointed. As always, his love of soul music comes through in his playing as well as jazz, funk and world music. Snake Davis is the only saxophonist we know who can literally make his instruments sing. A thoroughly entertaining evening for anyone who appreciates the finer art of real music.
