Chard Carnival Queen & Princess

Are You The Next Carnival Queen

Would you like to be carnival Queen or Princess at this year's Carnival in October. Chard Carnival Committee are looking for two ambassadors for Chard’s big event of the year. Entrants are being asked to register an interest by calling Emma Cox before Friday 9th May. This year the Carnival Committee will be trying something new and holding two completions. For both the first and main requirement will be to sell £250 of Chard carnival Draw tickets. Then everyone who has sold the £250 will go forward to a personality contest on Thursday  this will be done differently for the two age groups. The Chard Carnival Princess age requirement is to be aged 6-13 yrs on 01/10/08. For the first time in a while the winner will also be receiving prizes including portrait photo, jewellery, hair (on Carnival Day), dress and accessories and tickets to various local attractions (Including Butlins, West Somerset Railway and Longleat).

The Carnival Queen or Miss Chard age requirement is to be over 14yrs on 01/10/08. The winner of this will also receive prizes including, photo session, facial, manicure, hair, make-up, other beauty treatment, prom style dress and accessories, jewellery and lingerie voucher (also hair on day of Carnival).

All of the prizes are being donated by local businesses. For which we Chard Carnival Committee are extremely grateful, they  are hoping to get a lot of entries for both competitions this year and realise how hard it is to raise money, so hopefully by only having to sell the draw tickets this will encourage more entries. The aim of Chard Carnival is to raise money for charity. The entry date has now been extended to Friday 16th May,  to enter please contact Emma Cox on 01460 65832 or pick up an entry form from Sue’s Flowers in Bowden Street, Chard.

Licensing officers have slapped fifty pound fines on two Yeovil taxi drivers who were caught smoking in their vehicles - even although they were not carrying passengers at the time.   Taxi drivers are not allowed to smoke in their cars because it is deemed that this is their workplace. Should the smoking ban be extended to include all cars vans and lorries?
